Poro is a performance that deals with the gender roles that society gives to us. They can be boxes, rigid structures which en- trap and keep people apart from themself. The dancer, entangled in various gender roles, explores them and stretches them, trying to find a way out.
Through suffering and frustration, the dance evolves into a wild and furious raptus.
A ray of light comes on the dancer: she is not a dancer anymore. She is a forest, she is an animal, she is a deer.
To embody the different qualities and stereotypes of masculinity and femininity, the dancer is combining means and forms of contemporary dance with the emotive depth of Butoh. Leaded by the evocative music of Marja Burchard, she is continuosly transforming in a dance not of ideas or merely representation, but a dance of feelings, of struggles. A ritual dance for who doesn’t fit in those boxes gave by society, in a stricted gender identity.
